interCaribbean awarded Caribbean Airline of the Year
Tortola, British Virgin Islands, December 12, 2017 – Caribbean Journal’s annual Caribbean Travel Awards voted interCaribbean the 2017 Caribbean Airline of the Year.
According to Caribbean Journal, “there are few things harder on earth than running an airline in the Caribbean. That’s what makes the continued growth of Turks and Caicos-based interCaribbean Airways just so impressive.
“This carrier has been embarking on a massive expansion push around the region, from Cuba to the British Virgin Islands. It’s a sign that, even in Caribbean aviation, great things are possible. Here’s to what’s next.”
interCaribbean which already offers direct flights between the BVI and Puerto Rico, Antigua and the Dominican Republic, recently announced its addition of 5 nonstop flights from the BVI to St Croix, St Thomas, St Maarten, Dominica, and St Lucia starting February 1, 2018.
The Caribbean Travel Awards celebrates the best in Caribbean travel as chosen by the editorial team of the world’s leading Caribbean travel publication. The awards took place in the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria but recognize the achievements of the travel and tourism industry throughout the year.
“This year was not without its challenges in the Caribbean but in the face of overwhelming adversity, the region showed its toughness and resilience,” said Alexander Britell, Editor and Publisher, Caribbean Journal. “It’s something that’s eminently clear, as hard-hit islands quickly recover, with most already welcoming back travelers, from the British Virgin Islands to the US Virgin Islands to St Barth.”
Britell went on to remind readers of the online publication that the majority of the Caribbean is open for business and encouraged them to start planning their return to the islands.
According to Britell, Caribbean travel was having a banner year before this fall’s storms and there was much to cheer across the region, from surging arrivals in a host of destinations to continued hotel development and creativity.
