December 2024, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – The St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) Sailing Association is thrilled to announce a dynamic new partnership with interCaribbean Airways. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the Association’s journey to introduce youth across SVG to the transformative power of sailing, while furthering their ambitions in education, vocation, and competition.
Since its inception in 2020, the SVG Sailing Association has been at the forefront of developing sailing across the islands. Born from a 2018 summer camp at Villa Beach, the Association was the realization of a dream held by current president Jenny Trumble. With over 400 children introduced to sailing across SVG since its establishment, the Association’s efforts have been nothing short of inspiring.
“Our journey has been filled with incredible stories of joy, perseverance, and achievement,” said Jenny Trumble. “From teaching young children to sail in remote villages to seeing our sailors represent SVG on the world stage, we’ve come so far. Now, with interCaribbean Airways on board, we are poised to take our mission to new heights.”
Sailing for Fun, Vocation, and Competition
The Association’s core focus has always been to foster fun, create career pathways, and support competitive aspirations:
Fun: The summer sailing camps throughout St Vincent and the Grenadines have brought joy to hundreds of children, even amidst challenges such as volcanic eruptions and hurricanes. Seniors in communities often join in, sharing their stories and rekindling their own love for sailing.
Vocation: Programs such as the ongoing partnership with the French Embassy of St. Lucia, training youth for careers in the yacht charter industry, are creating tangible opportunities for local talent.
Competition: International participation has flourished, with sailors like Scarlett Hadley and Isaiah Blackett making waves in the PanAm Games and Youth World Championships.
A Shared Vision for Regional Growth
The partnership with interCaribbean Airways is perfectly aligned with the Association’s need for regional travel to attend regattas, training sessions, and competitions across the Caribbean. From the Antigua Nationals to the Caribbean Dinghy Championships, interCaribbean Airways will play a vital role in helping SVG’s sailors achieve their dreams while representing their nation on the world stage.
Building a Sustainable Future
In addition to fostering growth in sailing, the Association is laying the groundwork for a lasting legacy. Through initiatives like “2nd Life Sailing” with UK partners, the organization is bringing second-hand sailing equipment to SVG, creating opportunities for repair training and sustainability.
Creating Impact Beyond Sailing
“This partnership goes beyond the sport,” said a representative from interCaribbean Airways. “It’s about connecting communities, fostering dreams, and building futures. We are proud to support the SVG Sailing Association and their mission to inspire the next generation of sailors in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.”
The SVG Sailing Association invites individuals, organizations, and communities to join their mission. Whether through sponsorship, equipment donations, or volunteering, your support will help ensure sailing continues to inspire and empower in SVG.
